Behind every Saint and Sofia collection is a creative process shaped by research, craftsmanship, experimentation and an instinctive understanding of how modern women want to dress. From tailoring and knitwear to dresses, outerwear and accessories, every piece begins with an idea developed within the London design studio before evolving through sketches, fittings, fabric sourcing and wear testing into the final collection.

Leading that process is Danielle Fuller, Head of the Design Team at Saint and Sofia. Since joining the brand in 2020, Danielle has played a central role in shaping the visual identity and product direction of Saint and Sofia, overseeing the design of every collection alongside Maartje Peeters, Head of Concept within the design team.

Together, Danielle and Maartje work closely to build collections that balance timeless wardrobe staples with contemporary fashion direction - creating pieces designed to feel modern, wearable and long-lasting.

We sat down with Danielle to talk about her creative process, inspirations and what goes on behind the scenes at Saint and Sofia.

Design at Saint and Sofia

For Danielle, fashion design has always been about more than simply creating clothing. It’s about storytelling, emotion and creating pieces that become part of everyday life.

“Every collection starts with an idea or a feeling,” Danielle explains. “Sometimes it’s inspired by colour, architecture, film, music or even the atmosphere of a particular season. From there, we begin developing silhouettes, textures and styling ideas that eventually evolve into a full collection.”

Working with Maartje Peeters, the conceptual stage of each collection plays a huge role in defining the overall mood and creative direction before the design process begins.

“Maartje oversees the concept side of the collections, so we collaborate constantly,” Danielle says. “We look at how the collection should feel emotionally and visually before moving into the actual design and development process. There’s a real balance between concept and wearability.”

That balance has become one of the defining characteristics of Saint and Sofia collections — combining elevated fashion direction with practical, versatile dressing designed for modern life.

From Concept to Collection

The process behind every Saint and Sofia garment is far more detailed than many people realise. Once initial concepts are developed, the design team begins sketching silhouettes, sourcing fabrics and refining the technical details of each piece.

“Fabric is incredibly important to us,” Danielle explains. “The feel, movement and quality of a material can completely change how a garment works. We spend a lot of time sourcing fabrics that not only look beautiful but also feel comfortable and wearable.”

After fabrics are selected, prototypes and samples are developed before moving into multiple fittings and wear tests.

“We test everything thoroughly because fit is such a huge part of what makes women feel confident in clothing,” Danielle says. “We’re constantly refining proportions, sleeve lengths, waist placement and silhouette balance to make sure the final product feels effortless to wear.”

This focus on fit and functionality has become central to the Saint and Sofia design philosophy.

Danielle’s Journey Into Fashion

Fashion has always played a role in Danielle’s life. Growing up surrounded by stories from the fashion world sparked an early fascination with design, styling and textiles.

“My great aunt modelled for Vogue, so fashion was always present in conversations growing up,” Danielle explains. “Hearing about that world made me really curious from a young age.”

That curiosity eventually developed into experimenting with clothing, styling and textiles before pursuing a degree in Fashion and Textiles.

“Studying fashion gave me the technical understanding behind design, but internships were equally important,” she says. “They helped me understand the reality of the industry and refine my creative process.”

Since joining Saint and Sofia in 2020, Danielle has become instrumental in shaping the evolution of the brand’s collections and aesthetic identity.

Designing for Modern Women

One of the things Danielle loves most about her role is the creative freedom involved in building collections season after season.

“My favourite part is seeing an idea slowly come to life,” she says. “You begin with concepts and references, then suddenly you’re working with colours, textures, prints and silhouettes that evolve into a complete collection.”

For Danielle, inspiration often comes from the women around her.

“I’m constantly inspired by different women and how they express themselves through clothing,” she explains. “Whether it’s timeless elegance, confidence or individuality, I think style becomes most interesting when it feels personal.”

This perspective strongly influences the Saint and Sofia approach to design. Rather than chasing short-term trends, the collections focus on creating timeless pieces women can wear repeatedly in different ways.

“We always think about longevity,” Danielle says. “We want pieces to feel current but also timeless enough to remain in someone’s wardrobe for years.”

The New Collections

Looking ahead, Danielle describes the upcoming collections as a balance between statement dressing and versatile essentials.

The collection also introduces softer floral elements alongside rich suede textures designed to bring depth and warmth into transitional dressing.

“We’re really focused on trans-seasonal styling,” Danielle explains. “Pieces that can move between seasons and be layered in different ways throughout the year.”

That philosophy - combining timeless design with modern versatility -continues to define the Saint and Sofia aesthetic under Danielle’s direction.

As the brand continues to grow, Danielle Fuller and Maartje Peeters remain at the heart of its creative vision, shaping collections that celebrate contemporary dressing, thoughtful design and timeless style for modern women everywhere.
