Creating A Fashion Campaign

Creating A Fashion Campaign
SEE NEW STYLES

Fashion campaigns are far more than simply photographing clothes. The best campaigns create atmosphere, emotion and storytelling that allow people to connect with a collection on a deeper level. They shape how a brand is remembered visually and emotionally, often becoming just as important as the clothing itself.

At Saint and Sofia, campaigns have always played a central role in the identity of the brand. Since launching in 2020, the creative team has produced more than 50 original campaigns, building a distinct visual language that blends fashion, culture, storytelling and contemporary style. Every campaign begins with an idea, but bringing that idea to life requires months of planning, collaboration and creative trust between a close-knit team of specialists.

Today, Saint and Sofia’s creative department includes an in-house team of 10 creatives working alongside a trusted network of freelance photographers, filmmakers, stylists, hair and makeup artists and production partners who have collaborated closely with the brand since the very beginning.

While every campaign feels visually different, the creative process behind each one follows a classic fashion industry structure built around concept development, production planning, styling, photography and post-production.

Building The Concept

Every Saint and Sofia campaign starts with a creative concept.

Creative Directors Michael Higham and Dominika Durian lead the early development stage, exploring themes inspired by fashion, film, art, music, architecture and contemporary culture. The process often begins through moodboards, references, photography books, location ideas and conversations around the wider mood of the upcoming collection.

Founder Malcolm Bell also contributes heavily during the concept phase, helping shape the overall narrative direction and cultural references surrounding the campaign. Together, the team discusses not only how the collection should look visually, but also how it should feel emotionally.

Some campaigns begin with a cinematic reference or cultural idea. Others emerge from a location, a colour palette or a wider social mood happening at that moment in time. The goal is always to create imagery that feels relevant, emotionally engaging and visually distinctive while remaining connected to the Saint and Sofia aesthetic.

From Moodboards To Production

Once the creative direction has been agreed, the campaign moves into pre-production.

Michael Higham and Amber Epps oversee the production planning process, transforming initial creative ideas into a detailed working shoot plan. This stage involves organising locations, schedules, crew, logistics, casting, shot lists and production timelines.

Casting plays an especially important role within Saint and Sofia campaigns. Rather than focusing purely on traditional fashion casting, the team aims to find individuals who bring personality, energy and authenticity to the imagery. Models, creatives and cast members are selected carefully to reflect the mood and emotional tone of each campaign.

The wider creative team is also assembled during this stage. Photographers, videographers, hair and makeup artists, stylists and assistants are chosen depending on the visual direction of the project. Many of these collaborators have worked repeatedly with Saint and Sofia since 2020, helping create consistency and trust across productions.

This familiarity allows the team to work quickly and instinctively together on set.

Styling The Collection

Styling is one of the most important parts of any fashion campaign because it shapes how people emotionally connect with clothing.

At Saint and Sofia, Head of Editorial Alex Fullerton leads the styling direction across campaigns, carefully building looks that feel elevated, wearable and contemporary. Styling decisions are never only about showcasing products individually. Instead, the focus is on creating complete visual worlds around the collection.

Tailoring, layering, accessories, colour combinations and proportions are all carefully considered to ensure every outfit feels aspirational while still remaining relatable and wearable in real life.

Alex also oversees shot selection during the editing process, helping maintain consistency in tone, storytelling and visual identity throughout the final campaign imagery.

Shooting The Campaign

Shoot days themselves are often highly collaborative and fast-moving environments.

Depending on the campaign, productions may take place in the Saint and Sofia London studios or on location across the UK and Europe. Some campaigns lean towards cinematic storytelling and narrative imagery, while others focus more on clean editorial styling and minimalist composition.

Lighting, music, movement and atmosphere all contribute heavily to the mood on set. The creative team works closely together throughout the day, constantly refining poses, styling details, framing and visual pacing as images are captured.

Because the team has worked together consistently over several years, communication on set often becomes instinctive. Creative decisions happen quickly, allowing space for experimentation and spontaneity alongside the original production plan.

This balance between preparation and flexibility is often where the strongest imagery emerges.

Editing And Post-Production

Once the shoot is complete, the campaign moves into post-production.

Saint and Sofia’s editing team works to detailed creative briefs, refining imagery while maintaining consistency with the original concept and brand aesthetic. Colour grading, retouching, cropping and sequencing are all handled carefully to ensure the final campaign feels cohesive across every platform.

Post-production is not simply technical correction. It is a continuation of the storytelling process itself. The tone, texture and pacing of imagery all contribute to how audiences emotionally experience a campaign.

Once final assets are approved, the content is handed over to the marketing and channel management teams who adapt the campaign across digital, social, editorial, ecommerce and print platforms.

Why Campaigns Matter

Fashion campaigns remain one of the most powerful ways brands communicate identity, creativity and emotion.

In an increasingly fast-moving digital landscape, strong visual storytelling helps create deeper connections between collections and audiences. Great campaigns do more than showcase products. They create atmosphere, aspiration and cultural relevance.

At Saint and Sofia, campaigns are built through collaboration, trust and long-term creative relationships. From initial concepts and casting to styling, photography and editing, every stage contributes to creating imagery that feels emotionally connected, visually distinctive and unmistakably part of the Saint and Sofia world.
